Description
The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R9 introduces a new chapter in Yamaha’s R-Series legacy — a superbike built for both thrilling performance and everyday usability. At its heart lies an 889 cc liquid-cooled, inline-three CP3 engine (78.0 mm × 62.1 mm, 11.5 :1 compression) that blends strong mid-range pull with ample top-end power. According to Yamaha spec sheets, it produces approximately 87.5 kW (≈ 119 hp) at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm (68.6 lb-ft) of torque at 7,000 rpm. The six-speed gearbox is paired with an assist & slipper clutch, ensuring seamless shifts and control whether on the road or track.
Built on a model-specific aluminium Deltabox frame (Yamaha’s lightest ever for a supersport model), the YZF-R9 delivers agile handling with serious composure. Suspension is provided by fully-adjustable KYB components — a 43 mm inverted fork up front and a KYB monoshock at the rear — offering 119 mm and 117 mm of travel respectively. Braking is serious business: dual 320 mm Brembo Stylema calipers up front plus a 220 mm rear disc, with a lean-sensitive ABS and brake-control system derived from Yamaha’s top models.
Tech wise, the YZF-R9 is fully loaded — a six-axis IMU, ride modes, 9-level traction control, 3-level slide and lift control, quick-shifter up/down, smartphone-connected 5-inch TFT display and LED lighting ensure you’re well equipped.
At ~195 kg wet and with a 14-litre fuel capacity, it strikes a balance between track-readiness and everyday rideability.
With sharp R-Series styling, integrated winglets and a rider-first geometry, the YZF-R9 doesn’t compromise. It’s Yamaha’s vision for a modern supersport — less about ultimate peak numbers, more about usable, high-performance riding in real-world conditions. If you’ve been waiting for a track-capable bike that you’ll want to ride every day, the YZF-R9 deserves serious attention.
